New for 2009 - A practical introduction to Celestial Navigation
Aimed to compliment the RYA Ocean Theory course this practical hands on experience is a great way to get some practice in on a sextant.
If you’ve taken the Ocean Theory, taught yourself or just want to try it out this course is great as both an introduction and as a refresher.
The itinerary will cover initial sextant checks, Meridian passage, Sun sights, Star planning, Compass checks and whatever else we can squeeze in.
If you have your own sextant bring it along. We can compare the pro’s and con’s of different makes ranging from the very basic through to the proper thing.
The course takes place on our Najad 390 from Gosport marina and involves sailing along the South side of the Isle of Wight and back up through the Needles. So once the sun sets you’re still in for a an enjoyable sailing weekend.
